Highly Capable Program

The self-contained or pull-out program at the elementary level is discontinued at the secondary level in the Peninsula School District. Students enrolled in Harbor Ridge who are qualified for the PSD Highly Capable Program are assigned classes for Language Arts, Reading, Science and Math with their highly capable peers during their 6th – 8th grade years.

The PSD language arts program at the middle level is produced by the College Board and is a pre-Advanced Placement course. The reading classes are designed to challenge students to improve their comprehension strategies to read technical and informational text as well as reading for pleasure in fiction or non- fiction materials. Students who qualify for high school math classes are given the opportunity to earn high school credit in middle school. Often the math class is taught on the middle school campus. The science program is a full year course at all three grade levels. Highly Capable students at Harbor Ridge are encouraged to participate in the performing and fine arts program and to take a world language during their middle school years.
